We have talked about how mixing red and blue make purple, red and yellow make orange, etc. So that's a learning experience in and of itself. Oh, we also swirl food coloring into pancakes. We just put 5 or 6 drops in the batter at the very end, and stir two or three times (mix it any more and the pancakes just look dirty, not colorful). We have also done all things green on St. Patrick's Day, and all things yellow on a theme dinner night. Food coloring is pretty awesome. What do you add it to?

I colored my son's oatmeal blue this morning. He exitedly took about 3 bites then said "Now it's black" and closed his eyes and ran away. I think it was still hot. I have hopes he will eat the rest.
My kids like to add food coloring to their vanilla yogurt:)
on special days that have a color associated, like st. Patrick's day, I put a drop of green food coloring in my 5 year olds cup when she isn't looking, and then tell her to say "happy St.Patrick's day!" as I pour. She loves it, mommy is magic!
