Theme of the Week Challenge

Thank you to everyone who posted ideas last week. I know nearly all of the things you brought up were things that we are either struggling with at our house, or would love to implement. Over the next few weeks we will be choosing all of your ideas as future themes.

This week I decided to do the theme lunchtime. (P.S. I know we did the theme nutrition not too long ago, but this is more specific and we want ideas!) At our house, nearly every day, we have three choices: peanut butter and honey, peanut butter and jelly, or turkey and cheese. Pretty boring, pretty predictable. I would love ideas of simple, healthy foods that my kids will eat. Also, we're having problems with keeping our hands to ourselves during lunch; just this afternoon, an entire plate of baked beans "accidentally" went on the floor and splattered to my carpet (my newly washed, newly moved into the house carpet). The boys were roughhousing at the table - ugh. So if you have ideas for teaching manners at lunchtime, those would be appreciated too! Any creative, imaginative, practical ideas, or anything that works for you, is welcomed...the time is now yours!

The main thing I have to remember is to keep an open mind about what my kids eat. They want pizza for breakfast? Ok. A mayo and cheese sandwich? Whatever. My kids want yogurt a lot for a meal, and I guess that's ok with me. I also have realized that if I let them help me make it, they will eat it! We make tortillas with cheese a lot, cereal for lunch, and just lots of weird things. But almost never sandwiches (unless it is Land wanting a mayo and cheese sandwich, but that is at all times of the day). Not the best suggestions, but just keep an open mind!

I am so excited to get more ideas for lunches! I posted our regulars over on my blog, maybe my regulars are new for you?

I've posted a few of our lunch combinations over at my place. I don't know that they'll be helpful, but maybe we can find comfort in the fact that lunch is boring and predictable for everyone! LOL! :)

As for manners, well, we're having trouble keeping the boys in their chairs. They like to walk around for some reason. Our oldest started doing better when we put him in a Captain's Chair, but the middle boy just climbs out.

They sit across the table from each other, so we don't have the problem of keeping hands off each other.

Oh, any my oldest still likes to eat with his hands. Drives me crazy! I don't know how many times I have to remind him to use a fork or spoon. He's almost 6! Ugh.

Anyway, I'm enjoying my first challenge. It's been good to think about and read what other moms are doing. Thanks for hosting!

Erin,
The bean and cheese burritos are just refried beans and cheese rolled up and melted in the microwave. They can be dressed up a lot too with sauces and such, but we usually just like a little salsa or sour cream.
